DECEMBER 2nd, 2009
Called to Order: 1901
In Attendance:
Treasurer’s Report:
Secretary/Treasurer Barnes (in place of Morrissey) reported funds
of $9312.86. Numerous items spent on and pop activities.
Safety Committee:
Vice President Barnes updated Union members on the latest Safety
Concern presented to the Safety Committee by Robert Lane. Barnes
stated that the committee along with the Executive Board have
rendered a decision on this issue and will present the findings
to Robert Lane via letter. The Safety Committee is going to meet
with Jeff Patterson to discuss the Safety Concern he presented
to the committee and will discuss with Jeff the findings also.
Hester, K. asked why
the Safety Committee met with Chief Hilbert over the Canal Rd.
house burn and not with Manager Watkins. Hester, K. was furious
that the Safety Committee did not do what the body wanted. There
was much heated discussion on this matter. Vice President Barnes
along with Executive Board member Teigeler stated that the Safety
Committee has not approached Manager Watkins yet due to the fact
that they want to explore all avenues and when this is presented
to Manager Watkins he will see what we have done and there will
not be any question that we did not do all that we could have
done. This started even more discussion and contentment that the
Safety Committee has not gone over to Manager Watkins. There was
mention made that the committee is doing what it wants to do instead
on what the body asked the committee to do. The committee tried
to reason with the angered members of the body that what we are
doing is the professional way to do it and that because we have
not met with Manager Watkins does not mean that we are not going
to. Sergeant at Arms Roberts referred back to the last Union meeting
and read the motion that was voted on by the body and there was
nothing that stated a time line that the Safety Committee was
to meet with Manager Watkins.
Jeff Patterson made
it known that the concern that he brought up to the Safety Committee
regarding the Stoll Rd. fire is still unresolved and is not happy
that the Safety Committee has not done more with this. Jeff Patterson
was advised that the matter had been taken care of months ago
and that the Safety Committee will be meeting with him to discuss
the matter. Jeff Patterson once again stated that he feels that
there has been no resolution to this matter and expresses his
displeasure with the Safety Committee. Brent Davenport made a
motion to table the safety issues to go over to Manager Watkins
until the next Executive Board meeting. The motion was seconded
by Gorden. There was much heated discussion on this matter.
Steve Funk stated that
he would like to have the Union present the Safety Concerns to
the Township Safety Committee and for them to look at the issues.
Mike Martin made a
motion to table the safety issues until the next meeting. Let
the Township Safety Committee investigate this further and to
have the Union Safety Committee set up a meeting with Manager
Watkins. Roman, A. seconded the motion. There was some discussion
on this matter. Jeff Patterson once again reiterated his concern
that there has been no resolution to his Safety Concern and feels
nothing has been done about it. 16 yes, 3 no and 1 abstained.
Motion carried.
Old Business:
Uniform Hats: motion passed last meeting for the Union to buy
dress hats for all Union members. Chief Hilbert wants Union to
look at S.O.G. for Class A Uniforms. Chief Hilbert approved a
Service Style hat with badge and the cost of these will be over
$100. Chief Hilbert will be able to purchase them for $90.
Hutchinson made motion
to not buy hats due to the increase cost to the Union. Gorden
seconded the motion. 16 yes, 3, no and 1 abstained.
Hester, K. made a motion
to have someone take better notes for the Union meetings. She
states that the notes taken are not accurate and we need to have
better note taking so that motions that are stated are the same
as what is written. Hester, K. cannot believe that it is that
hard to take notes. Davenport seconded the motion. Again, there
was much discussion on this matter. Mike Ruster made a motion
to have the Union purchase a tape recording device and spend up
to $50. Proebstle seconded the motion. Hester, K. withdraws her
motion. 11 yes, 3 no and 1 abstained.
New Business:
Health Insurance: Covert asked if the Union had received a Letter
of Understanding from Manager Watkins for the new health insurance
changes. President Roman stated that he has one from Watkins.
Teigeler read the letter from Manager Watkins.
There was discussion
on if Manager Watkins letter is in good standing and if he is
acting for the Township Board or Township Supervisor. President
Roman to talk to with Business Agent DeVries regarding this issue.
There was much discussion
on the issue of the new health insurance. There was discussion
on the co-pay for chiropractic co-pay. We currently have $0 co-pay
and the new insurance states that there is $10 co-pay. Linda Wells
says that this will be changed to show no co-pay.
There were 2 Grievances
filed and turned into Chief Hilbert. Chief Hilbert denied the
Grievances and will proceed to the next step.
Open Discussion:
Meeting adjourned at: 2043
