Treasurer’s Report:
Vice-President Barnes (in place of Morrissey) reported funds of
$12,000. Numerous items spent on pop and flowers for funerals.
Safety Committee:
Vice President reported that all of the information is in the
hands of Manager Watkins and he has met with all parties involved.
Manager Watkins is out of town and will get with Manager Watkins
when he is back.
Old Business:
RETIREMENT – Martin did some investigating on event insurance
and we are currently looking at $300-400. These are 1 time event
policies. The event insurance will be turned over to the executive
board to make a decision on what would be best. Anyone that wants
to get a quote on insurance please refer it to your executive
board member.
President Roman stated
that we should look at a possible change in venue for the upcoming
retirement party to reduce our liability and give it to a restaurant/bar.
Gorden wanted to know if there was a way to use someone homeowners
policy to cover the liability insurance that Delta Township is
requiring. Vice President Barnes stated that he checked into it
and his insurance agent told him that it is becoming a thing of
the past for insurance companies to do that. Barb Kellogg (Delta
Township Parks) stated that the group (Delta Township Firefighters
Union) needs to have the policy for the group.
Gorden presented to
the Union the following places to possibly hold the retirement
party: Renos, Ramada Inn, Royal Scot and Tony M’s. The cost
for all of these places was going to run upwards of $2000 with
attendees having to pay for a cash bar. Hutchinson stated that
he does not mind where it is at. Frazee stated that he does not
want to have it in a bar setting.
Vice President Barnes
asked Fabiano if we could get a deal on keg beer and he agreed.
Martin stated that
it was $252 for liability insurance and another $469 for a total
of $821 for insurance.
Nordlund asked about
a standing policy. Martin stated that he would have to check with
the insurance agent about one and the cost.
Teigeler made a motion
to proceed with retirement party at Delta Township Community Center
for Frazee and Hutchinson. Motion seconded by Gorden. 24-Y 0-N.
Motion carried.
Patterson made a motion
for the executive board to get a 1 million dollar umbrella policy
to cover special events and authorize the executive board to spend
up to $1250.00. Teigeler seconded the motion. Discussion on this
matter prompted Lane to state that we should give the executive
board $1500.00 just in case. Patterson revised motion in the amount
of $1500.00. 24-Y 0-N. Motion carried.
Funk stated that the
umbrella policy should be clarified for each event.
Martin suggested that
interested people to submit quoted by 3/9/2010 so the executive
board can make a decision on 3/10/2010.
BYLAW CHANGES: Sergeant
at Arms Roberts stated that we are unable to vote on the changes
since they were not put on the Union board. Tabled for the next
meeting.
New Business:
LINE OF CREDIT FOR COKE: Martin stated that there was a snafu
in our Coke order. Our check for Coke did not get there in time
for the Coke delivery. Coke representative called Martin and wanted
to know if we wanted to have a Line of Credit with them to prevent
this from happening.
Roberts made a motion
to have a Line of Credit with Coke as long as there is no charge.
Ruster seconded the motion. 24-Y 0-N. Motion carried.
FIREFIGHTERS FISHING
FOR KIDS: Lane stated that the event is coming this soon and again
all proceeds are going to benefit the Great Lakes Burn Camp. Last
years event yielded a donation of $3300.00. Lane stated that a
$500.00 donation will get us top billing for advertising on the
radio, at the event and top logo on the t-shirts. There was discussion
on this matter. Nordlund made a motion to donate $500.00 to Firefighters
Fishing for Kids. Oates seconded the motion. 24-Y 0-N. Motion
carried.
STATION 1 HOT CHOCLATE:
Vice President Barnes stated that we currently do not have any
hot chocolate provided at Station 1. Vice President Barnes stated
that he purchased a 60ct. package from Sam’s Club for $5.34.
There was discussion on possibly getting a hot chocolate machine
similar to the one at Station 3. This was thought of before and
was presented to Chief Hilbert and he stated that he does not
want it on the counter.
Sergeant at Arms Roberts
made a motion to by the hot chocolate packets for Station 1 and
to also look at other machines. Motion seconded by Ruster. 23-Y
1-N. Motion carried.
President Roman congratulated
Teigeler for the promotion to Engineer.
Open Discussion:
Boomer thanked the Union for the flowers for the funeral of his
father in law. The family really appreciated it and also kudos
to Matt Hutter for the playing of the bagpipes.
Frazee stated that
he would like to see a news section on the Union website. Sergeant
at Arms Roberts to look into doing this.
Oates made a motion
to send flowers for the funeral of Larry Elliott. Fabiano seconded
the motion. Discussion on this matter led to why give flowers
when the family wants a monetary donation to the Melanoma Research
Foundation. 24-Y 0-N. Motion carried.
Funk thanked everyone
for the flowers for his father’s funeral.
Lane made a motion to send $50.00 to Melanoma Research Foundation.
Roberts seconded the motion. Discussion on the matter. After discussion,
Lane rescinded the motion.
Teigeler made a motion
to send flowers to the Larry Elliott and a $100.00 contribution
to the Melanoma Research Foundation. Maier seconded the motion.

Martin gave MERS quarterly
statement.
Gorden wanted to know
about our medical reimbursement. Much discussion on this matter.
There seems to be a hold up with the doctors not billing out very
quickly. There also have been some coding problems with BCBS.
President Roman stated that if there are any issues to bring them
up to Linda Wells.
Feldpausch stated that
GLPD officer Connie Starr had a stroke while on duty. She is slowly
recovering and she has left sided numbness. She was 18 months
from retirement. There is a fund set up at Dart State Bank in
Grand Ledge.
Martin made a motion
for $200.00 to the Connie Starr foundation. Teigeler seconded
the motion. 24-Y 0-N. Motion carried.
Beckwith is selling
tickets for the American Cancer Society’s relay for life.
The tickets are $20 for all you can eat at Outback Steakhouse
on 3/6/2010.
Martin stated that
he called Coke for a machine repair and was notified that we have
a 2x2 countertop unit on our account. Martin was not aware of
this and will get with Covert who was the last to have the machines
before the Union took them over.
Nordlund made a motion
to adjourn the Union meeting. Motion seconded by Davenport. 24-Y
