Union Meeting Minutes
May 7, 2008
Called to Order: 1907

Treasurer’s Report:
Secretary/Treasurer Barnes reported funds of $7776.79. Funds going out
included pop and flowers. Mike Roberts made a motion to accept the treasurer’s
report. Motion seconded. Motion unanamsiously passed.
Safety Committee:
Discussion about letter to the Township regarding manpower to be put on
hold until the manpower study that is currently being done is completed.
Dave Boomer stated the study should state and reflect our concerns.
Jeff Patterson brought up concerns of events after Montevideo
fire with agility testing during the fire and other issues.
Old Business:
ELECTIONS:
Leiby, Feldpausch and Ruster were tellers for
the voting per union bylaws.
Mike Ruster read the results of the elections:
Mark Covert - Vice President
Ryan Morrissey - Shift 3 Steward
Blue Light Players donated 3 tickets for their upcoming
show.
Negotating Committee met and wrapping up comparison studies
and will be report back to the Union body at the July meeting.
Mike Martin reported that the picnic is still a go and
will be getting supplies next week with Ken Barnes.
WEBSITE:
Mike Roberts reported that the website is complete and presented the website
to the Union body. Mike Roberts discussed options of website hosting on
or off site. Del Teigeler made a motion to approve the website for Union
business. Mark Proebstle seconded the motion. Unanimously passed. Leo
Frazee made a motion for the webhosting to be done off site by a private
company with the cost of doing this not to exceed $100.00. Jeff Patterson
seconded the motion. Unanimously passed.
President Mike Roman discussed the possibility of Union
positions for the D/C and fire inspector. Discussions with Jim Devries
have been done. Discussion on the matter amongst the Union body.
There are no details of yet on the manpower study. Should
have it soon.
New Business:
NEW HIRES: President Mike
Roman stated that the new hires will soon be done with the Captain’s
academy and will be starting shift on May 12, 2008.
LINE OF DUTY DEATH: President
Mike Roman looking into having this clause in our upcoming contract since
there is no provision for this in our current contract.
CONDIMENTS: Much discussion
on the matter of usage of peanut butter as a condiment. Some do not want
peanut butter as a condiment because of over usage of this. Discussion
on this matter lengthy. Decided to table this matter until the next Union
meeting.
RETIREMENT: Duane Haring
talked about retirement on June 24, 2008. He would like the Union to consider
if the Union contract were to include insurance for retiree’s spouses
that he might be grandfathered in this since he will be retiring in June.
Will table discussion until July meeting.
Open Discussion:
Mark Proebstle discussed possible language change for
filling a job vacancy.
Dave Boomer has opened his fishing boat to anyone that
would like to go. Would be happy to go anytime as long as he is in the
boat fishing also.
Mike Roberts made a motion to adjourn Union meeting.
Kent Nordlund seconded the motion. Unanimously passed.
