Delta Township Firefighter's Union Meeting Minutes

July 9th, 2008

Called to Order: 1907

In Attendance:

Treasurer's Report:

Secretary/Treasurer Barnes reported funds of $8040.58. Spent money on flowers and various items for Haring retirement party.

Safety Committee: Nothing to report.

Old Business: File cabinet given to Union from Dawn O'Brien. O'Brien bought the file cabinet with her own money to store Union files and would like to be reimbursed. Roberts made a motion to buy file cabinet from Dawn O'Brien. Second by Hutchinson. Motion passed.

Condiments brought up. Sec/Treasurer Barnes stated that since its inception, the Union has spent $305.48 since December 2007. Union members in agreement that the money spent is well worth it. No further discussions needed.

President Roman brought up that the bylaws need to be revisited. Roman would like to have a committee to look into bylaw changes. Sec/Treasurer Barnes and Roberts to look at bylaws and make recommendations for changes. Hutchinson stated that he would like the committee to look at it now instead of after the contract and new officer elections.

President Roman discussed Haring retirement. Sec/Treasurer Barnes reported that the Union spent a total of $1158.09 on the retirement. President Roman thanked all who contributed to the party and to those who showed up.

New Business: Gorden brought up discussion for the bylaws to reflect a greater amount that may be spent from $150.00 to $500.00 so that the executive board does not have to vote to spend more money such as the case for Haring's recent retirement. There was much discussion amongst Union members about this subject. Bylaws committee to look into this matter.

Sec/Treasurer Barnes and Roberts left. Nordlund took over Secretary Duties for remainder of meeting.

Free oil changes for Firefighters in Albion, at Albion Motors.

Martin discussed MERS 2007 actuarial is 3% down in unfunded liabilities. It is .56% down for member contributions this year. MERS rep is available to speak at upcoming Union meeting. MERS meeting in September at Traverse City, MI.

Frazee encouraged members to review MERS mail order prescriptions – many can still be purchased in bulk (90) days at local pharmacies for the cost of a 30 day supply.

1955 – Quorum lost due to EMS run (Feldpausch – Leiby).

Open Discussion: Discussions on upcoming contract negotiations.

President Roman stated that Lt's have requested NOT to test for Captain's position in writing – submitted letter thru President Roman to Manager Watkins and Chief Hilbert. Signed letter of understanding. Township will select next Captain without testing. The letter states there can be no grievances after decision is made and that this is not precedent setting.

Proebstle wanted to know if Township will replace Haring's position after Dawn's situation is resolved. President Roman stated that no specific answer from Township at this time.

Martin stated that Applebee's is holding a fundraiser for the Great Lakes Burn Camp. On duty shift is invited. All proceeds go to Burn Camp.

Wednesday August 20, 2008 Fishing for Kids will be volunteering for fundraiser in Kalamazoo for Great Lakes Burn Camp. Contact info at website for Fishing for Kids or Great Lakes Burn Camp.

Gorden looking for volunteers to help with catering job for upcoming LTFD retirement party – no solid date yet. Also seeking cook for Davenport's reception.

President Roman stated that FAOM stickers available.

President Roman submitted $11000.00 proposal for fitness equipment for Station 3. Looks promising per Manager Watkins and Chief Hilbert for this fiscal year.
