Delta Township Firefighter's Union Meeting Minutes

Treasurer's Report:

Secretary/Treasurer Barnes reported funds of $9456.31. Spent money on various items and received our quarterly reimbursement from POAM. Maier made a motion to accept the Treasurers report. Patterson seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Safety Committee:

Secretary/Treasurer Barnes had nothing to report. No new items.

Old Business:

Discussed possible bylaw changes. Secretary/Treasurer Barnes presented changes to the Union body. Discussed changes to the proposal. Discussed possible bylaw change for voting.

President Roman discussed upcoming negations. Meeting to be held Friday September 5, 2008 at 1330. The Union is ready and looking forward to upcoming negations.

Guns vs. Hoses softball game to be held Saturday September 13, 2008 at Sharp Park. Still looking for players. If interested, please contact Mike Roberts. Game starts at 1200.

Upcoming MERS conference to be held in Traverse City. President Roman and Vice President Roman discussed importance of meeting. Mike Martin stated that it was a very informational meeting and is strongly recommended for someone to attend. President Roman asked if anyone would like to attend. Vice President Covert was the only member to acknowledge. Larry Hutchinson made a motion to send Vice President Covert to the meeting and have the Union pay for registration and hotel accommodations. Approx. cost would be $200 for registration and about $300 for hotel. Mark Proebstle seconded the motion. 10 yes votes, 5 no votes. Motion passed.

President Roman discussed POAM newsletter. We do not currently get POAM newsletter and we used to in the past. Secretary/Treasurer Barnes stated that he talked to Ed Jacques at POAM and generally they do not add Fire Departments to there general mailing. We are now added and look forward to a newsletter.

New Business:

President Roman discussed the funeral of John P. Dyer, B/C for the Lansing Fire Department. There are visitations and the funeral is set for Friday September 5, 2008 at 1100. President Roman stated that they are setting up a scholarship fund in his name. Beckwith made a motion to donate $500 to the John P. Dyer Scholarship fund. Motion seconded by Hutchinson. All yes except for 1 no. Motion passed.

President Roman discussed Potterville A/C Buck. He is going through some tough medical times and the Fire Department is hosting a golf outing to raise money for unpaid medical bills. Beckwith made a motion to sponsor a hole at the tournament at the cost of $150. Martin seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion passed.

Secretary/Treasurer Barnes informed the Union members of the Firefighter Combat Challenge happening on Saturday September 13, 2008 in Milwaukee, WI. Reminded members that our team was the State Champions last year. Informed members of all that is done to keep the team going. All of our money is by donation. Hatfied, Nordlund and Morrissey have spent countless hours putting together donation packets and going door to door to businesses that are in Delta Township. Would be nice to see if our own Union would stand behind us with a financial donation. The Union has never supported the Combat Challenge Team. The Combat Challenge Team was voted down twice for financial help. Beckwith made a motion to donated $1000 to the Delta Fire Combat Challenge Team. Teigeler seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion passed.

Newsletters and flyers passed around about upcoming events in the area.

President Roman discussed the possibility of forming an Honor Guard. President Roman discussed the possibility of it and various other things. The Township is looking at ideas. President Roman looking for volunteers. Funk, Hatfield, Teigeler and Secretary/Treasurer Barnes showed interest in the Honor Guard.

Open Discussion:

 Roberts discussed the website and informed Union members that we are averaging about 3 hits a day and reminded Union members that there is a lot of valuable information on the website.

Mark Covert made a motion to adjourn the September Union meeting. Beckwith seconded the motion. All in favor.

Meeting adjourned at 2012.

Next Meeting: Wednesday November 5, 2008 1900 hours at Station 1.
